In 1990 the Oregon Association of Orthopaedists, Inc. was established with the encouragement and leadership of the AAOS and its advisory board, the Board of Councilors.  The inaugural meeting was held at Salishan on November 9, 1990.  Bylaws were approved establishing the OAO as an Oregon nonprofit corporation.  Grant Lawton, M.D., Salem, was elected the first President and Nick Cavarocchi, Director, AAOS, Washington, DC delivered the keynote address
 
Quarterly meetings of the Board of Directors and annual meetings of the membership continue in pursuit of the OAO mission.
